What lenses fit the Panasonic LUMIX GH7?

The short answer

The Panasonic LUMIX GH7 has a Micro Four Thirds mount and a Micro Four Thirds sensor. Micro Four Thirds lenses fit directly. PL, Canon EF, Nikon F, Canon FD, M42 and Leica M lenses fit with an adapter. Sony E, Fujifilm X and Nikon Z lenses can't be adapted to its Micro Four Thirds mount.

What the Panasonic LUMIX GH7 asks of a lens

The sensor
Micro Four Thirds, around 25 megapixels, with open gate readout — the full sensor area, not a 16:9 crop.
What to put on it
Native MFT. The crop is roughly 2× against full frame, so a 25mm behaves like a 50. MFT glass is small, fast and cheap, which is much of the appeal.
A pairing that works
Native MFT primes — small, fast and cheap. Full-frame glass adapts but throws away the size advantage that is the whole point.
What it gets booked for
Travel, solo documentary and anything where the whole kit has to fit in one bag.
Worth knowing
Open gate means the corners of the sensor are in play. Lenses that were fine on a 16:9 crop can vignette when you use the whole frame.

    A Fujifilm X lens needs to sit closer to the sensor than the Micro Four Thirds mount allows, so there's no room for an adapter.

  • Nikon Z lenses

    A Nikon Z lens needs to sit closer to the sensor than the Micro Four Thirds mount allows, so there's no room for an adapter.

Some cameras can have a different lens mount fitted by a technician. If a rental comes that way the listing will say so, and this table won't apply.

Sensor coverage

Lenses made for Micro Four Thirds, Super 35, full frame and large format cover its Micro Four Thirds sensor fully.

Lenses made for Super 16 throw a smaller image, so expect dark corners unless you shoot in a crop mode that matches.

On Micro Four Thirds every lens frames about twice as tight as on full frame — a 25mm looks like a 50mm.
