Camera operator for hire in the UK
The camera operator runs the camera on the day, executing the framing, marks and moves the DoP and director have called for.
Are you a camera operator? Get listed and take work near you
Post the role, your postcode and your rate. The nearest camera operator is asked first — within 19 miles, or further for anyone who has said they travel — and if they pass it moves to the next nearest. Nothing is charged unless someone accepts.
Be the first camera operator here
No camera operator has published a profile yet — the crew side is new. Post your request anyway: it pings everyone online nearby, and if you work as a camera operator, set up your profile to be the first listed.
What a camera operator does on a shoot
- Runs the camera take after take, hitting the framing and marks the DoP and director called.
- Works with the focus puller on moves, handovers and where the camera has to end up.
- Spots what should not be in frame — boom, crew, reflections — before a take is wasted.
Gear a camera operator usually needs
Crew and kit are hired separately on Picturental. If the production is supplying the package, these are the categories this role tends to work from.
How hiring a camera operator works
- 1
Post the role
Say you need a camera operator, where the shoot is, the dates and the rate you're offering.
- 2
The nearest is asked first
The closest camera operator gets it alone, and it widens to the next nearest every 60 seconds until someone accepts.
- 3
First to accept takes it
The job locks to them, you swap details, and you rate each other afterwards.
Hiring a camera operator
- Do I need a camera operator if I already have a DoP?
- On a bigger or faster shoot, yes: the DoP watches the whole image and the lighting while the operator concentrates on the frame. On a small crew the DoP usually operates too — say which you want when you post.
- What should the request say?
- The camera body and rig, whether it is handheld, sticks, Steadicam or gimbal, the dates, the location and the rate. If the operator is expected to bring the camera, say so — it changes who is available.
