Will it fit?
What lenses fit the Sony FX30?
The short answer
The Sony FX30 has a Sony E mount and a Super 35 sensor. Sony E lenses fit directly. PL, LPL, Canon EF, Nikon F, Canon FD, M42 and Leica M lenses fit with an adapter. Fujifilm X and Nikon Z lenses can't be adapted to its Sony E mount.
What the Sony FX30 asks of a lens
- The sensor
- Super 35 / APS-C, 26 megapixels — the FX3 body with a smaller sensor in it.
- What to put on it
- E-mount, but the sensor is S35, so full-frame lenses crop by roughly 1.5×. A 35mm behaves like a 50. Sony's own APS-C glass is smaller and cheaper and covers properly.
- A pairing that works
- Sony's APS-C E-mount primes cover the sensor properly and keep the package small and cheap.
- What it gets booked for
- Second camera on an FX3 shoot, and budget jobs where the 1.5× crop is a feature for reach.
- Worth knowing
- It looks identical to an FX3 and is not. If the shoot was planned around full-frame field of view, the crop will surprise someone on the day.
Every lens mount on the Sony FX30
Fits directly
Sony E lenses
The camera's own mount — nothing extra needed.
Fits with an adapter
PL lenses
Needs a PL-to-Sony E adapter.
LPL lenses
Needs an LPL-to-Sony E adapter (specialist LPL adapter).
Canon EF lenses
Needs a Canon EF-to-Sony E adapter (e.g. Metabones or Sigma MC-11). A smart adapter keeps autofocus.
Nikon F lenses
Needs a Nikon F-to-Sony E adapter. Whether autofocus works depends on the adapter.
Canon FD lenses
Needs a Canon FD-to-Sony E adapter.
M42 lenses
Needs an M42-to-Sony E adapter.
Leica M lenses
Needs a Leica M-to-Sony E adapter.
No standard adapter
Fujifilm G lenses
Physically possible, but there's no standard Fujifilm G-to-Sony E adapter — ask the owner.
Canon RF lenses
Physically possible, but there's no standard Canon RF-to-Sony E adapter — ask the owner.
L-Mount lenses
Physically possible, but there's no standard L-Mount-to-Sony E adapter — ask the owner.
Micro Four Thirds lenses
Physically possible, but there's no standard Micro Four Thirds-to-Sony E adapter — ask the owner.
Won't fit
Fujifilm X lenses
A Fujifilm X lens needs to sit closer to the sensor than the Sony E mount allows, so there's no room for an adapter.
Nikon Z lenses
A Nikon Z lens needs to sit closer to the sensor than the Sony E mount allows, so there's no room for an adapter.
Some cameras can have a different lens mount fitted by a technician. If a rental comes that way the listing will say so, and this table won't apply.
Sensor coverage
Lenses made for Super 35, full frame and large format cover its Super 35 sensor fully.
Lenses made for Super 16 and Micro Four Thirds throw a smaller image, so expect dark corners unless you shoot in a crop mode that matches.
Full-frame lenses on Super 35 frame tighter than their focal length suggests — a 50mm looks roughly like a 75mm on full frame.

Mounts and adapters are checked against flange distance and the adapters that are actually sold. Kits vary — if a pairing matters for your shoot, confirm it with the owner before you book.
