Will it fit?
What lenses fit the Leica SL3?
The short answer
The Leica SL3 has an L-Mount and a full frame sensor. L-Mount lenses fit directly. PL, Canon EF, Nikon F, Canon FD, M42 and Leica M lenses fit with an adapter. Canon RF, Micro Four Thirds, Sony E, Fujifilm X and Nikon Z lenses can't be adapted to its L-Mount.
What the Leica SL3 asks of a lens
- The sensor
- 60-megapixel full frame in a weather-sealed L-mount body.
- What to put on it
- Native L — Leica SL, Sigma and Panasonic glass all mount directly. M lenses adapt cleanly and are a common pairing.
- A pairing that works
- Leica SL primes, or Sigma and Panasonic L-mount glass for a fraction of the money.
- What it gets booked for
- Professional stills where weather sealing and build quality are the deciding factors.
- Worth knowing
- Sharing L-mount with Sigma and Panasonic is the practical advantage: the lens list is far wider and cheaper than Leica's own.
Every lens mount on the Leica SL3
Fits directly
L-Mount lenses
The camera's own mount — nothing extra needed.
Fits with an adapter
PL lenses
Needs a PL-to-L-Mount adapter.
Canon EF lenses
Needs a Canon EF-to-L-Mount adapter (e.g. Sigma MC-21). A smart adapter keeps autofocus.
Nikon F lenses
Needs a Nikon F-to-L-Mount adapter. Whether autofocus works depends on the adapter.
Canon FD lenses
Needs a Canon FD-to-L-Mount adapter.
M42 lenses
Needs an M42-to-L-Mount adapter.
Leica M lenses
Needs a Leica M-to-L-Mount adapter.
No standard adapter
LPL lenses
Physically possible, but there's no standard LPL-to-L-Mount adapter — ask the owner.
Fujifilm G lenses
Physically possible, but there's no standard Fujifilm G-to-L-Mount adapter — ask the owner.
Won't fit
Canon RF lenses
A Canon RF lens needs to sit closer to the sensor than the L-Mount allows, so there's no room for an adapter.
Micro Four Thirds lenses
A Micro Four Thirds lens needs to sit closer to the sensor than the L-Mount allows, so there's no room for an adapter.
Sony E lenses
A Sony E lens needs to sit closer to the sensor than the L-Mount allows, so there's no room for an adapter.
Fujifilm X lenses
A Fujifilm X lens needs to sit closer to the sensor than the L-Mount allows, so there's no room for an adapter.
Nikon Z lenses
A Nikon Z lens needs to sit closer to the sensor than the L-Mount allows, so there's no room for an adapter.
Some cameras can have a different lens mount fitted by a technician. If a rental comes that way the listing will say so, and this table won't apply.
Sensor coverage
Lenses made for full frame and large format cover its full frame sensor fully.
Lenses made for Super 16, Micro Four Thirds and Super 35 throw a smaller image, so expect dark corners unless you shoot in a crop mode that matches.

Mounts and adapters are checked against flange distance and the adapters that are actually sold. Kits vary — if a pairing matters for your shoot, confirm it with the owner before you book.
